Hot air ballooning & the Great Migration

SERENGETI BALLOON SAFARI

A Serengeti balloon safari is the ultimate way to experience the vastness of the national park. This is an essential safari experience for travelers to Serengeti National Park.

Although not cheap, a balloon safaris is worth the expense. Floating serenely over the treetops as the sun peaks over the horizon permits you to experience the endless Serengeti plains from an unforgettable perspective. As we set departure very early morning, you may even spot some nocturnal predators getting ready for the day.

During most flights the pilot will include sections flown at a higher altitude allowing you to soak up uninterrupted views of the Serengeti; other sections may involve low-level flying, during which there may be the opportunity to see wildlife. Highly experienced pilots can follow rivers and streams, and will glide just meters above grunting hippos or wandering giraffes. Flying low allows you to take some great aerial wildlife photos. You move over the plains wherever the wind takes you, whilst being tracked from the ground by balloon crew in their vehicles.

Stay with Maasai in a full traditional hut & experience their lifestyle.

MAASAI BOMA VISIT

The Maasai are a semi-nomadic people who mostly live off the cattle that they own. Their main food consists of meat, milk and maize meal. The Maasai travel in clans and build their family homes in circular enclosures protected by thorny makeshift fences. They often keep their cattle in an enclosure in the center of the ‘boma’ (home).

A traditional boma consists of a variety of “houses” which are in essence small huts made of mud and cow dung. Each of our huts has traditional Maasai stick beds, however with a blow-up mattress and a mosquito net, it is one of the comfiest ways of surviving in the bush.

A stop at a Maasai Boma can be incorporated into any trip that visits The Ngorongoro area or the Serengeti.  You will be able to watch a traditional welcome dance and if you are feeling adventurous, join in the dance.  You will observe their traditional way of life, tour a boma, see how they teach their children and observe their unique culture.
